The world is bracing for the next pandemic - a
violent avian-flu virus which could decimate
millions.
Patient Zero is the story of Lara Williams and her involvement, as a virologist for the World Health Organization, in a threatened pandemic that seems to have its origins in the Middle East. On her way to Riyadh to investigate, she meets Daniel Thompson, a journalist who offers to trade any information they respectively have on a possible source at Mecca. He also stirs in her romantic longings that she hasn't felt since an earlier betrayal. Daniel subsequently goes missing, and Lara and a colleague are stranded in Riyadh by virtue of her having had involvement with him. When he surfaces, he turns out to be a scientist himself who has traced the source of the virus. Can the pandemic be stopped?
