Chapter 520: [Crimson Inheritance] (39)
It was obvious to the naked eye that Matt didn’t like Nick in the slightest. Before leaving, Silvanus couldn’t help but rap Matt lightly on the head. "Don’t act like that. You haven’t even met Nick yet. He’s actually a pretty good guy."
"Whooop!" Matt cried out. Whether it was a sound of dissatisfaction or something else entirely was impossible to tell. But by then, Silvanus had already disappeared without a trace. Only the vast expanse remained, and even Matt’s echoing voice was swallowed by the darkness.
Its eyes darted around before it finally curled up once more on Silvanus’s throne.
At the same time, the door to Room One suddenly swung open. Neo walked in at an unhurried pace. Dragged behind he was an indistinct object that scraped across the floor with he’s movement.
Still enveloped in darkness, Nick couldn’t help but shiver at the sight. One source of danger had only just disappeared, and now another had arrived. Was this really going to be okay?!
No one could hear he’s thoughts. Nor was he left in fear for very long. Almost the instant Neo stepped one foot into the room, the comic book lying off to one side suddenly sprouted countless hands. They wrapped themselves around Nick before he even had a chance to resist!
Nick felt as though he had been thrown into a raging storm or a violent tornado. He’s body spun uncontrollably, leaving him with no chance whatsoever to break free!
The hands were unbelievably greedy. Even after capturing Nick, they showed no intention of stopping. Instead, they continued searching, then shot straight toward Neo, clearly intending to drag him in as well!
Neo slowly raised he’s eyes. Faced with the mass of elongated hands growing larger and larger, he’s figure seemed almost insignificant.
Yet before those hands could touch him, they came to a flawless halt.
Yes, they stopped right there in midair.
The next instant, the sound of bones being violently crushed echoed through the room. The skin covering the hands writhed ceaselessly, turning limp and slack before finally being compressed until it burst apart.
Fresh blood splattered everywhere, covering the entire floor. The hands were now nothing more than empty skins.
A trace of disgust flashed across Neo’s face before he reduced everything to dust.
"Eek... eek... eek..."
The milk-white creatures off to one side had huddled together by now. Setting aside their revolting appearance, they looked somewhat pitiful.
But clearly, they were only pitiful in the presence of someone stronger. Unfortunately, Neo felt no sympathy for them whatsoever.
His gaze swept over them. Then, with a slight lowering of his index finger, several more rugs appeared across the floor in an instant. The blood had sprayed with such force that all four walls were stained crimson, yet not a single drop managed to touch Neo.
He let out a yawn and walked straight out of the room.
He was sleepy, unbearably sleepy, but he couldn’t sleep in a place like this. At the very least, he had to return to his room... return to his room...
How infuriating. Had he been wrong?
He shouldn’t have taken such a risk to show himself simply because he knew Silvanus would be here. In the end, Silvanus hadn’t spared him a single glance, and now he had lost his sleep as well.
Could Envy have been right? Did Silvanus simply not care about any of them...
Even thoughts as simple as those seemed enough to drain Neo’s mind. He let out another long yawn, his steps becoming unsteady.
Off to the side, the nightmare-like creature obediently pressed itself flat against the floor like an inanimate object, not daring to move. After all, it had no desire to meet the same fate as the others.
...
"Aaaaah—!"
The dizzying sensation of weightlessness, as though he had just been hurled down from a great height, made Nick scream instinctively in terror. The next moment, it felt as though his body had suddenly snapped back into place. A wave of nausea immediately overwhelmed him, forcing him to clamp a hand over his mouth.
His eyes flew open as he surveyed his surroundings as quickly as possible.
Clearly, this was no longer that gloomy, terrifying castle.
The road beneath him was paved with marble. Beautifully trimmed flowerbeds lined both sides of the path, while ancient stone structures stood beyond them, their long vaulted arches stretching overhead like an enormous spider’s web.
The air around him was filled with an endless buzz of noisy voices, like a swarm of mosquitoes droning in his ears.
Looking down, the first thing Nick saw was a head of jet-black hair. Someone was kneeling in front of him.
The next moment, that person suddenly looked up. Through the disheveled strands of hair, Nick caught sight of a pair of emerald-green eyes.
Almost instantly, his soul seemed to snap back into place.
"Sil... Silvanus?" Nick murmured.
At that moment, the mosquito-like buzzing around him became clearer than ever.
"Ha ha ha! You actually dared to block Nick’s path? Since when did this bookworm become so brave?"
"It has to be because Daisy agreed to go to the dance with Nick."
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Daisy may only be a doll, but has Silvanus even looked at himself? Does he really think he’s worthy of a toy like that? Hahaha!"
Every word they spoke was dripping with contempt, both for Silvanus and for Daisy.
Compared to them, the onlookers watching the spectacle weren’t much better.
[Silvanus!!! So this is where you’ve been, cutie!]
[Can someone explain what’s going on here?]
[I never thought I’d actually get to see Nick bullying Silvanus. This setup is hilarious. Hahaha.]
[Am I the only one who noticed Nick is so scared he’s literally covered in goosebumps? Hahaha.]
The comments weren’t wrong. Nick wanted nothing more than to pull Silvanus to his feet immediately.
But just then, Silvanus’s cold voice suddenly echoed inside his mind.
[Don’t do anything that goes against your character.]
Nick froze.
His mind raced at the fastest speed it could manage. Secretly biting his lip, he suddenly kicked Silvanus in the knee.
"You hear me?! Daisy’s going to the dance with me! Go cry by yourself!"
His voice was loud, carrying an unmistakable hint of guilty panic. Even so, it was probably the best performance Nick could manage.
"Let’s go!"
The next second, he shouted at the top of his lungs and hurried away with his group of followers.
"Boss, we’re just letting Silvanus off that easily today?" one of the lackeys couldn’t help asking.
Nick’s heart was pounding so hard it felt as though it might leap into his throat. He turned around and shot the lackey a fierce glare, instantly silencing him.
Nick frowned and quickened his pace.
Only after their footsteps had faded into the distance did Silvanus slowly rise to his feet.
One hand reached up to tug aside the heavy bangs covering his face as he quietly surveyed the scene before him.
Next, he should probably go find Mia.
He wondered where Mia had wandered off to.
