Chapter 160 Soul-Seizing Technique

Chapter 160 Soul-Seizing Technique

After Professor Xin finished recounting what he had seen and heard, seeing Qin Xiaochuan deep in thought, he asked, "You are demon hunters, which means you have superpowers, right?"

Qin Xiaochuan and Guo Shiyi nodded.

"I've heard about people with superpowers. What are your plans for dealing with this monster? Are you going to capture it?"

"We'll have to see how things go and handle it accordingly," Guo Shiyi replied from the side.

Professor Xin pondered for a moment before earnestly saying, "I have a request. Could you take me on this mission?"

"Huh?" Qin Xiaochuan looked at the other person in confusion.

"This is a new species, do you know how important this is to me?" the professor asked excitedly.

"But don't you find it strange that a new species would appear in this small town, and so suddenly at that?"

"Logically speaking, this is indeed a bit strange," the professor said, adjusting his glasses. "That's precisely why it's so valuable for research. If it really is a new species, it might just cause a major upheaval in the field!"

"Um, but..." Qin Xiaochuan put his hand to his forehead, really not knowing how to explain. He couldn't very well tell the other party that there was a monster causing trouble, could he? For this meticulous scientist, such an explanation would probably be hard to accept, and even if he did accept it, it would probably arouse the other party's greater interest.

"Teacher, as you know, the fact that this matter has been entrusted to a demon hunter means that it is dangerous," Qin Xiaochuan said helplessly.

"Isn't this all you guys here? I can tell you're all seasoned veterans just by looking at you. I think dealing with those beasts will be a piece of cake for you." The professor smiled, his eyes narrowed, clearly brimming with confidence.

Qin Xiaochuan and Guo Shiyi were speechless. Qin Xiaochuan couldn't help but think to himself, "That's not what we said at the beginning. And these nice words are too perfunctory. They are both college students around eighteen years old. They don't look like they've been through a lot."

"Teacher, you really think highly of us," Qin Xiaochuan said with a wry smile.

"Why don't we bring Teacher Xin along? There shouldn't be any problems," Guo Shiyi said helplessly from the side.

Qin Xiaochuan was quite confident in his abilities and didn't really think that the professor would be in any danger. He just felt that having a teacher by his side would be somewhat inconvenient. Hearing Guo Shiyi say this, he could only agree.

"What are you planning to do next?" After receiving their approval, Professor Xin visibly breathed a sigh of relief and quickly became actively involved in the investigation.

"Let's go check out Wu Di's house first, and then find that local guy to get some information. Maybe we can find some clues," Qin Xiaochuan pondered.

"That's what I think too," Guo Shiyi said with a grin from the side.

Wu Di's house is located at the entrance of the town's street. It is a self-built two-story house with a yard enclosed by a wall in front. When the three of them arrived at his house, they saw Wu Di's father, Wu Changqing, dismantling a pool in the yard, while an old man wearing a military overcoat was sitting on a chair in the yard, sunbathing.

"Master Wu, what are you doing?" Professor Xin stepped forward to greet him, and casually took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, offering two to Wu Changqing and the old man sunbathing.

"It's Professor Xin." Wu Changqing looked like a simple middle-aged man. When he saw Professor Xin offering him a cigarette, he was flattered and hurriedly wiped his hands on his clothes before taking the cigarette and saying awkwardly, "Yesterday I asked a geomancer to take a look. He said that this pool was facing my child, so I quickly demolished it."

"Is the child feeling better?" the professor asked.

"The same as always." The man's eyes dimmed as he said this.

Professor Xin, not wanting to say much, pointed to Qin Xiaochuan and Guo Shiyi and said, "It's like this, I reported what happened here to the relevant departments." He hesitated for a moment before continuing, "The higher-ups sent these two comrades over to find out what happened."

"These two?" Wu Changqing looked at them in disbelief. "Aren't they your students?"

"No, they are comrades who specialize in handling these kinds of things," Professor Xin quickly explained.

"Oh, oh, then you should come in and sit down quickly." Although Wu Changqing was still a little unwilling to believe it, he didn't say much in front of Professor Xin.

"Uncle, please don't be so polite. We're just here to get some information, so we won't stay any longer. Can we meet Wu Di?" Guo Shiyi asked.

"There's nothing wrong with seeing him, but he's in a condition where he can't answer any questions, so please don't upset him too much," the man said with a sigh.

Qin Xiaochuan and Guo Shiyi nodded in understanding.

Just as the two were about to follow Wu Changqing into the house, they suddenly heard the old man sunbathing in the yard say, "The Yellow Immortal is angry; we must properly pray to him."

Qin Xiaochuan stopped and looked back at the old man, but the old man was still lying in the chair basking in the sun, with his back to him, and said nothing more, leaving him only a quiet back view.

Wu Changqing opened the door to the inner bedroom, and Qin Xiaochuan saw a boy in a school uniform sitting by the window, staring blankly out the window, seemingly not hearing the door open at all.

"Wu Di." Wu Changqing called softly. The boy turned his head and Qin Xiaochuan saw a blank look in his eyes and a bewildered face.

"I took him to the hospital a few days ago, and the doctor prescribed some sedatives. So he's usually very quiet," Wu Changqing explained from the side, but at the end he couldn't help but turn his head away, his voice a little hoarse, clearly trying to control his emotions.

"Soul-capturing technique!" Guo Shiyi looked at the boy by the bedside in surprise.

"What is that?" Qin Xiaochuan asked, puzzled.

"It's a skill that controls other people's minds. Didn't you see it when we went to the All-Powerful Shop before?"

Qin Xiaochuan then remembered that when he and Guo Shiyi left the All-Purpose Store last time, they did encounter a man with blue eyes.

"Is there any way to solve this?" Qin Xiaochuan asked.

"Uncertain. Soul-capturing skills are always mysterious and unpredictable. The effects of casting them and the difficulty of dispelling them are closely related to the caster's abilities. The Wudang Sect is not good at dealing with this kind of skill. If there were disciples from the Maoshan Sect, it would be much easier."

"Is the Maoshan Sect also good at catching ghosts and exorcising evil spirits?" Qin Xiaochuan asked curiously.

Guo Shiyi nodded.

"Can it also catch zombies?"

"Of course." Guo Shiyi rolled her eyes at him, walked straight up to the boy, pointed her index fingers at his temples, closed her eyes, and muttered something under her breath.

"What are you doing?" Wu Changqing tried to step forward to stop them, but Qin Xiaochuan stopped him and said sincerely, "Don't worry, Uncle, we won't hurt your son."

Wu Changqing swallowed hard, nervously watching the two people in the room, without saying anything more.

Just as the two were talking, Guo Shiyi finished chanting the incantation. As soon as she stopped, the boy closed his eyes and his body was about to fall down. Guo Shiyi reached out and caught him.

"Didi." The man rushed over, put his arm around the boy's shoulders, gently shook his body, and asked anxiously, "How are you feeling?"

The boy slowly opened his eyes, looking somewhat tired. He looked at the stranger in the room with a puzzled expression, then at his father who was holding him, and asked in confusion, "Dad, what's wrong?"

"Do you remember what happened to you?" Guo Shiyi asked gently.

"What...happened to me?" the boy asked, puzzled, rubbing his temples as he spoke. "I think I had a very long dream."

"You went to the mountain with your classmates before, do you remember?" Guo Shiyi asked again.

"Yes." The boy nodded, frowned and thought for a moment, then shook his head and said, "I don't remember anything after that."

"Alright, then you should get some rest." Guo Shiyi turned around and gave Qin Xiaochuan a disappointed look, and the latter could only sigh and leave the room.

Wu Changqing urged Wu Di to get some rest, but the boy shook his head, indicating that he wasn't sleepy. He simply stood up and looked curiously at the three strangers who had come to the house. The man didn't insist. With his son's illness cured, a weight was finally lifted from his heart, and his body felt lighter and more agile. He took a couple of big strides and caught up with Guo Shiyi, who was about to leave.

"Thank you so much, young lady." The man smiled sheepishly, unsure how to express his gratitude. He rubbed his hands together and said, "Why don't you stay for lunch and have some at my house?"

"Uncle, please don't be so polite. We're here to do something, so we won't trouble you," Guo Shiyi quickly declined.

"No matter how busy you are, you still need to eat. You've helped my family so much, I have to show my appreciation." As he spoke, he walked over to Professor Xin and said, "Professor Xin, what do you say?"

Professor Xin replied with a smile, "I understand how you feel, Master Wu, but these two young comrades are indeed here on business. Next time I have the chance, I will definitely bring them to your house to eat every day."

"I don't believe that eating can delay your business. Wait a minute..." The man suddenly went back into the house, and when he came out again, he was holding a red envelope and was about to stuff it into Guo Shiyi's hand, saying, "If you really don't want to eat, then you have to accept this little gift no matter what."

"Uncle, you're too kind. It was just a small favor, there's no need for that." Seeing this, Guo Shiyi quickly hid behind Qin Xiaochuan, waving her hands repeatedly to Wu Changqing to express her gratitude over his shoulder.

"How can that be? It's just a small favor for you, but it's a huge debt of gratitude for my family." Wu Changqing then stuffed the red envelope into Qin Xiaochuan's pocket, saying without allowing any refusal, "I can't very well refuse a young lady like her. It seems she's your girlfriend, so you should accept it for her. Remember to give it to her later."

"Ah, no... Uncle, you don't have to do this..." Qin Xiaochuan waved his hand awkwardly, unsure whether to refuse the red envelope or explain his relationship with Guo Shiyi.

"Since they're so kind, you shouldn't refuse," Professor Xin suddenly interjected, trying to smooth things over. "The people here are kind and hospitable; you have to repay any favors you owe them."

"See, Professor Xin really understands us." Wu Changqing grinned憨厚ly.

"But, Professor Xin, this isn't appropriate." Guo Shiyi reached into Qin Xiaochuan's pocket, took out a red envelope, and quickly stuffed it back into Wu Changqing's hand, looking at Professor Xin with a wry smile.

"You..." Wu Changqing was about to speak when Professor Xin interrupted him, "Master Wu, we won't accept the red envelope. Let's just do as you said and have lunch here with you." Then she turned to Qin Xiaochuan and Guo Shiyi, "That way you won't refuse anymore, right?"

"Okay, okay, okay, it's settled then." Before the two could argue, Wu Changqing had already made the decision, and the two could only nod in agreement.
