Chapter 22 Highschool of the Dead
Chapter 22 Highschool of the Dead
Boom!Boom!Boom!
The can Roy threw made a crisp sound on the ground, as if it were some kind of signal, and all the zombies on the street raised their heads.
The zombies charged toward Roy in a vast and imposing manner, creating an overwhelming sense of power.
The first zombie to arrive grabbed Roy with both hands and opened its blood-red mouth to bite him hard.
Roy drew his village sword and swung it lightly.
A sharp sword light flashed, and the zombie's movements came to an abrupt halt. Its head split horizontally in two, the upper half sliding down, revealing its brain matter.
These zombies need to have their heads smashed to die completely. With ordinary swords or blunt weapons, it would take several blows to kill them. But the sharpness of the Murakami sword can easily cut through even hard bones.
The first zombie died, but the zombies behind it felt nothing and continued to advance. Their stiff faces showed no fear, just like the monsters in the dungeon. They had no reason and only wanted to tear apart the humans in front of them.
Roy grinned maliciously, using the convenience store as his base to slaughter zombies. He single-handedly guarded the entrance, displaying a heroic spirit of "one man against ten thousand."
Every zombie that comes dies instantly, without exception!
These zombies have similar basic attributes to goblins, but they can be poisoned if bitten and do not have the ability to develop "abnormal resistance". Roy dared not say that he could withstand the zombie poison. Fortunately, he had the agility attribute that broke through the limit, and he nimbly avoided the zombie's attacks.
The corpses were piled up like mountains, and blood flowed like rivers.
Once the kill count reaches 160, the number of zombies attacking the convenience store begins to decrease.
[Strength: 630→636 (C)]
Endurance: 678→698 (C)
Roy saw the notification on his stat panel, which showed a significant increase in his stamina attribute. He rubbed his slightly sore shoulders and couldn't help but smile wryly.
This is hard physical work!
Given the basic attributes of zombies, as long as he doesn't do anything reckless, it's basically impossible to hurt him, but killing a thousand zombies is not an easy task either.
He can kill at most three or four hundred zombies before his stamina runs out and his movements become noticeably slower.
Roy stepped over the zombie corpses and walked out of the convenience store, casually clearing out a few zombies nearby. Then he walked straight into the street, cutting down anything that stood in his way!
Zombie kills: 182.
Zombie kill count: 201.
Zombie kills: 228.
……
When Roy had fought his way through a street, it was already dusk, and at the end of the street was a school.
Looking at the plaque at the school gate—Litto Academy of Arts and Sciences—Roy recalled the plot of this world; he had somehow ended up at the main characters' school.
Just what he wanted, as there were relatively more zombies in the school than in other places.
Boom!Boom!Boom!
Roy knocked on the stainless steel railing at the school gate, the crisp sound echoing throughout the entire school.
Numerous zombies slowly raised their heads and rushed over in droves, like students after lunch in a cafeteria.
Roy took a step forward as if entering an empty field, wielding the Murakami sword with fierce speed, frantically reaping the heads of zombies, blood splattering everywhere.
Such a commotion naturally attracted the attention of the students who had escaped the wreckage and were hiding in the teaching building.
"Hey, what's up with that guy?"
The students blocked the classroom door with desks and chairs to keep the zombies out. Hearing the noise, they poked their heads out of the windows and saw Roy wreaking havoc in the open space.
Even the teachers in the office, including Takashi Komuro, were stunned. The boy's face was filled with a wild smile, as if he were saying to the hundreds of zombies in front of him: You are surrounded by me all by myself!
"Is that a human?" Miyamoto Rei's mouth opened slightly.
His swift movements were like those of a ferocious beast, yet he nimbly dodged all the zombies' attacks, unleashing his fury among hundreds of zombies, causing chaos and devastation.
"I don't know, at least I don't think an ordinary human could do that kind of move," said Saeko Busujima. As the captain of the kendo club who had won the national championship, she believed that her close combat skills far surpassed those of ordinary people, but in front of that boy, she felt that she was inferior in skill.
Saya Takagi's eyes lit up. "This is our chance! While that guy is distracting these monsters, let's get out of school quickly!"
The office fell silent.
Saya Takagi noticed the strange looks she was receiving from the others and asked, displeased, "What's wrong?"
Saeko Busujima asked, "You're planning to use him as bait, so what will he do?"
The zombie outbreak had just occurred, and people still retained their most basic sense of right and wrong, let alone a group of students. Asking them to sacrifice others to survive was a difficult choice.
"So what?"
Saya Takagi argued, "We didn't force him to go. He was fighting the monster on his own. Even if he died, it was his own fault."
The group fell silent. They had originally planned to break out at this time, and it was a godsend that someone happened to be there to distract the zombies.
Let's go!
Saeko Busujima broke the deathly silence.
The opportunity was too good to pass up, and everyone had no choice but to accept the outcome. Komuro Takashi and Busujima Saeko acted as bodyguards, one in front and one behind, and the group carefully descended the stairs, trying not to make a sound.
Because Roy attracted most of the zombies' attention, the group arrived at the parking lot without any major incidents, boarded the school bus, started it, and began driving!
Realizing they weren't the only clever ones using Roy, another teacher on campus, Koichi Fujito, led several students over. After sacrificing a male student to attract the zombies' attention, they successfully boarded the bus.
"Shizuka-sensei, bring that boy up." Saeko Busujima came to the driver's seat.
"good!"
Shizuka Marikawa replied, feeling guilty for using the other person to attract zombies.
A blond-haired boy brought up by Fujiwara Koichi shouted angrily, "Hey, what are you guys talking about! Look, who are we supposed to save?"
Everyone followed his gaze.
The black-haired youth was like a god of death descending to earth; hundreds of zombies around him could not get close. With each swing of his long sword, he would accurately reap a head.
Cold-blooded, cruel, and ruthless!
If things continue like this, they have no doubt that the black-haired boy will wipe out all the zombies on campus.
Saeko Busujima said, "Humans have physical limitations, Shizuka-sensei!"
Shizuka Marikawa nodded, gripped the steering wheel, and slammed on the gas. The bus shot off like an arrow, crashing into several zombies in front of Roy.
Saeko Busujima called out, "Hurry up and get up here!"
A hint of surprise flashed deep in Roy's eyes. He knew these people were using him to lure zombies and escape, so the fact that they would come back to pick him up was quite unexpected, especially since he was almost out of energy.
Zombie kill count: 348!
