Chapter 551 Attendants
The sea breeze is more turbulent at higher altitudes.
The flags overhead fluttered loudly in the wind.
Dick couldn't help but wonder if he should take down the coat of arms.
He pointed to the boats moored beside the island and raised his arm: "See them clearly?"
David, who was on the lookout tower with him, nodded: "Look closely, it's a pirate ship!"
This is what puzzled Dick the most.
Pirates are a group of people who do not engage in productive activities; they live by plundering. However, in this isolated sea, they have no stable source of income.
Why would this group of people appear here?
Dick immediately realized that the situation might be more complicated than he had imagined.
Right now, a fleet is following behind the Hunting Yellow Dog.
The fleet's ships were more uniform in design, clearly belonging to a more organized force.
However, all the flags on these ships had been removed, as if they were deliberately concealing their identities.
But whoever they were, they arrived at this sea area in the center of the abyss with Dick's ship at this moment, and their purpose was by no means as simple as plunder.
Perhaps, this group of ships was originally there in search of Fallen Feather Island.
Dick currently sees three forces pursuing Fallen Feather Island, but there may be more.
Dick had a premonition that the fact that so many forces were pursuing the same goal might not be a coincidence, but rather an inevitability.
But Dick couldn’t discern the source of this inevitability.
There was only one thing Dick was certain of: neither the ships in front nor behind them were their friends.
"We should avoid all ships," Dick said.
Dick had been being chased by the ships behind him all along.
Although they noticed that the distance was decreasing more slowly, there was no doubt that the two sides were indeed getting closer.
If it weren't for Peggy's usual observations that led them to the correct route to the island, they would probably have been caught by that fleet sooner or later.
Now that they had arrived on the island, Dick had to find a way to completely shake off the enemy.
Dick had hoped that a few of the ships would capsize in the narrow waterway.
Unfortunately, the sailors on these ships were not novices either.
Therefore, Dick had no choice but to follow the original plan and land on an island.
If there is a river on the island, then follow the river upstream.
This boat is a rowboat, and it's hard for the sailboats behind to catch up on the river.
David nodded: "If that's the case, we must first circle the island to find a suitable angle to approach."
"I'm leaving everything to you," Dick nodded in agreement.
He had to admit that he did not do as well as David in this matter.
A qualified captain must also know how to recognize and utilize talent.
Dick began to climb down the mast and found Peggy clinging to the fender.
He walked towards her: "Peggy, what are you doing?"
Peggy glanced back at Dick, then turned back again: "It's nothing, just killing time. You know, it's always boring on a ship."
Dick had heard these words many times, but he also understood that Peggy was just complaining.
Therefore, he did not respond.
Peggy raised her right hand and spoke again: "That island, is it the Featherfall Island you're looking for?"
"Very likely," Dick nodded.
"Ah, that's true. An island situated amidst such spectacular natural scenery is inherently legendary. If you say it isn't, I'll be even more curious."
"Does it make you feel more interesting?"
Peggy stared at Dick for a few seconds after hearing this before saying, "Maybe, but I think, Dick, you might have been deceived."
Dick was taken aback: "Why do you say that?"
"Why would a normal person think of sending you to find a legendary island? That's abnormal in itself. That emblem officer back then—you could tell at a glance he was a very scheming person. And that Anne, Dick—she's definitely a bad woman!"
Dick initially thought Peggy's first part of her statement made sense, but as he listened to the latter part, something felt off: "Peggy, do you have any basis for your claim?"
"A woman's intuition," Peggy chuckled. "My mother always said that a woman's intuition is very accurate."
Dick didn't know how to answer: "But anyway, we've gotten here."
"I understand. So, are you planning to go to the island?"
"Yes, according to the mission, I need to gather as much intelligence as possible to take back," Dick replied.
"Ask the Stoneskin Parrot a question?" Peggy retorted. "Do you really believe that legendary creature exists on this island?"
"This is the legendary island, isn't it?"
"Even so, Dick, is it really worth the risk?"
"A knight's mission is to be true to his oath."
"That's the only thing I can't criticize," Peggy sighed, "but since you're planning to go to the island, I'm going too."
"No!" Dick shook his head. "As we know, this is a legendary island, an unknown island. We have no idea what dangers we will encounter on this island."
"But staying on the ship isn't necessarily safe either, Dick. I'll feel safer with you by my side—"
Upon hearing this, Dick was also caught in a dilemma.
Dick was indeed uneasy about entrusting Peggy to the other crew members on the ship.
But should Peggy really stay with you? Besides, "Your health isn't good either; a long journey, exposed to the elements, might worsen your condition."
“I’m not afraid, Dick, I’m not afraid,” Peggy took a few steps toward Dick. “Besides, only you can take me to see the doctor, can’t you?”
"You can go yourself; you know where that library is—"
"No!" Peggy exclaimed. "You swore to save me, and I'm sticking with you!"
Upon hearing this, Dick was stunned for a moment.
Suddenly, he shook his head and smiled helplessly: "Miss Peggy, you can be quite willful at times."
"Do you hate it?"
"Am I hateful?" Dick couldn't help but wonder.
But I found that I didn't feel any annoyance at all.
What's going on? Shouldn't Peggy be that brat who drives people crazy, the kind you just want to tie up and gag?
"Never mind, maybe I'm just used to it"—Dick shook his head—"That's only one aspect of Peggy's life."
"Well then, Peggy, get ready, the work ahead won't be easy."
Peggy smiled and nodded vigorously, then ran back to the captain's cabin.
After a while, Peggy came out wearing a suit of tanned leather armor and knelt on one knee before Dick: "Your servant reports to you, sir."
Ah, she's playing a role again. Is she a servant this time?
Dick said cooperatively, "Get up."
"Yes, sir," Peggy said, standing up awkwardly.
Seeing this comical sight, Dick almost burst out laughing.
"Are you wearing chainmail?"
"Yes, David helped me change it."
"Very good," Dick nodded. "A servant's duty is to obey his master's orders."
"Yes, sir."
"
"If a battle breaks out, you must hide immediately and not hold anyone back!"
"Yes, sir!"
Looking at Peggy's smiling face, for some reason, Dick felt a warmth welling up inside him.
