Chapter 72 Triss and Mr. Z
Chapter 72 Triss and Mr. Z
Chapter 72 Triss and Mr. Z
Enmat Port, an abandoned warehouse.
Tris paced back and forth with a solemn expression, wanting to leave several times, but ultimately gave up and dared not make a move.
Tonight he was supposed to meet with his superior to receive his reward for completing his mission—the Assassin's Path Sequence 7 potion recipe and three main ingredients.
Following the caution of an "assassin," he left his hiding place ahead of time and arrived at the rendezvous point.
His caution saved his life, as he encountered the heavily armed Mechanical Hearts squad. Had it not been for the intervention of a powerful Extraordinary, he would have had no chance of escaping.
The extraordinary man, who looked like a magazine model, led him to the abandoned warehouse, told him only "Don't leave," and then hurriedly left.
Tris still doesn't understand how he was exposed, because he only arrived in Tingen today and sent out the rendezvous signal in the Tingen Honest Newspaper. How did the Mechanical Heart team find him?
Could it be that his superiors in the Witch Cult were arrested or killed, exposing him? How could that be?
Although he was not of high rank, he knew that his superiors were powerful and could not be easily captured, especially at this critical juncture.
"I should at least wait until I get the corresponding formula and materials before something goes wrong. Now, not only am I unable to get what I'm entitled to and thus unable to get promoted, but I don't even know how to contact the organization in the future."
Triss scratched his head in frustration.
His problems don't stop there. The biggest problem he faces now is who the mysterious person who saved him is, whether he is friend or foe, and what his purpose is.
Because he couldn't even figure this out, he had no idea whether he should sneak away from the abandoned warehouse, and he wasn't even sure if anyone was watching him.
Just as Triss was lost in thought, the handsome, blond-haired, black-eyed, powerful, and smiling young man reappeared before him, taking out a sketch and saying:
"Is she the person you were supposed to meet in Tingen?"
When Triss saw the sketch, his pupils contracted, but he didn't answer the question. Whether he answered or not was no longer important, because the young man had already figured it out.
The young man placed the sketch on a large, dusty wooden box and then spoke again:
"I mean no harm. Let me introduce myself; you can call me 'Mr. Yi'."
Upon hearing Mr. Z's self-introduction, Triss was even more shaken, gripping the dagger hidden in his sleeve even tighter, raising his vigilance to the extreme.
Because the Aurora Society's name is so well-known in the Extraordinary World, while other secretive organizations operate in secrecy, the Aurora Society would rather operate in the open, repeatedly confronting the Church of the Righteous God head-on, yet it has not been destroyed.
Moreover, this group of people is crazy enough that no one can control them when they go crazy, and even other secretive organizations are unwilling to associate with them.
Despite the wary Triss, Mr. Z remained amiable and said:
"The reason I was able to save you is because of God's revelation. The great Creator foretold the arrival of the first ship, so I noticed you as soon as you disembarked at the port of Enmat and followed you all the way to Tingen. That's why I saved your life when you were in danger."
I didn't know why the Creator wanted me to pay special attention to you, but after I learned from the Lamb in the police station that your superior had been eliminated, I realized that you would be the perfect candidate to infiltrate the Witch Cult. Perhaps you could become a high-ranking member of the Witch Cult and make it work for the Lord.
Just as Mr. Z was giving a long speech about the greatness of the Creator and his plans for Tris's future, Tris suddenly interrupted him, saying:
"I'm sorry, Mr. Z. I'm very grateful for your life-saving grace and am willing to do anything for you, but I must say that I come from the Gnostic Society, which is only a subordinate organization of the Witch Cult. It's impossible for me to join the Witch Cult, and the higher-ups of the Witch Cult are all women. They wouldn't accept me—"
Before Triss could finish speaking, Mr. Z couldn't help but burst into laughter:
"A group of witches established the Gnostic Society, creating the illusion of a witch cult, and attributing everything they did to the witch cult."
And the Witch Cult, seizing the opportunity, recruited members under the name of the Gnostic Society. How hilarious! Hahahaha!
Triss was stunned by the sheer volume of information contained within, and after a long pause, he stammered, "..."
"The Gnostic Society I joined was actually a witch cult? Not just the Gnostic Society? But why would a witch cult recruit a man like me?"
Mr. You looked at Triss with pity and said with a sigh:
"Because the name of the Assassin's Path Sequence 7 is 'Witch,' which is why the high-ranking members of the Witch Cult are all women."
Triss's mouth gaped open, as if struck by lightning, and he couldn't close it for a long time.
Just as Mrs. Sharon of Tingen was killed and Triss, now a stray dog, was rescued by Mr. Z, Evan had just finished his "hoeing" activity.
After attending the tarot reading hosted by Mr. Fool in the afternoon, Eben wanted to go to Rose Street in the Backlund Bridge district to see how Fors and Hugh's surveillance work was going, and whether his idea of substituting one thing for another to create a convincing illusion would work.
Just as Evan was about to leave, he saw the newspaper delivered by the newsboy every day and realized that he hadn't read today's morning paper yet. He wondered if the "Eye of Wisdom" had issued a notice to convene a secret meeting, but then he discovered that the witch cult had already sent him a message to make contact.
Evan used a code to arrive at a hotel in the western district again. Following the pre-arranged knocking order, he knocked on the door of a room where another "Pleasure" witch was waiting for him.
After a brief exchange, Evan learned that the witch who had contacted him was named Natalie, and that her true identity was the widow of a viscount who secretly worked as a courtesan scouting young girls for nobles.
This made Evan sigh inwardly, thinking that witches truly lived up to their reputation as born widow spiders, always draining old men dry before inheriting everything from them.
Evan then recounted how he was forced to deceive his brother Robert into taking the "Audience" potion, and how his brother then sent him to MI9. He attributed his disguise as the "Audience" to the "Golden Gaze" artifact he had obtained.
When the witch named Natalie heard that Evan had infiltrated MI9 by chance, she was indeed extremely excited, as this was something many secret organizations wanted to do but had not been able to.
As for Evan's inability to continue his ascension if he were to infiltrate the group, she told him that she would consult with the higher-ups of the Witch Cult on how to resolve the issue, and hinted that the Witch Cult had demigods in Backlund who could surely protect him.
Natalie never expected that taking over just one peripheral member would bring her such a big surprise. And seeing Evan's beauty, which was no less than that of a witch, she couldn't help but "take" Evan.
