Chapter 35 Eve's Summoning
Chapter 35 Eve's Summoning
That concludes the letter.
After reading the letter, Li Ang understood. This must be Lottie's grandfather, who discovered this secret passage when he was studying and working in the tower, but was blocked by the guards inside and unable to continue exploring.
He left behind maps and information in the hope that capable members of his family could continue the exploration.
Lottie held her grandfather's letter, her fingers trembling slightly, lost in thought. After a moment, she looked up into the darkness deeper into the passage, her eyes filled with conflict. Finally, as if she had made up her mind, she looked at Li Ang.
"Mr. Li Ang," she said softly, her voice trembling slightly, "even my grandfather couldn't get through there, the dangers ahead must be beyond our imagination. We...we shouldn't go any further, okay?"
She paused, looked at Li Ang, and said earnestly, "Actually, finding this letter is enough for me. Whatever came before is no longer appealing to me. And you, Mr. Li Ang, with your talent, you will surely become a powerful wizard in the future. It's not too late for you to explore this place then. Taking risks now is not worth it."
Li Ang nodded, agreeing with Lottie's statement. In fact, when he was reading that letter, he had no intention of continuing to explore, after all, he did not want to end his life prematurely.
"Let's go back. You still have an assessment to complete tomorrow."
"Hmm." Lottie breathed a sigh of relief. She was genuinely afraid that Li Ang would insist on dragging her to continue exploring. She had already achieved her goal, and no matter how good the things ahead were, they were not as important as her own life. However, Li Ang had helped her so many times, and if he insisted on going forward, she would have no choice but to accompany him to the death.
The two carefully retraced their steps back to the vicinity of the entrance. Li Ang pressed the mechanism next to the hidden door, reopening the main door and returning to the corridor.
"Go back to sleep," Li Ang whispered to Lottie.
Lottie nodded and continued to follow closely behind Li Ang. The two returned along the same route until they stood at the door of Li Ang's dormitory room B045. When Li Ang took out his key to open the door, he found that Lottie was still following closely behind him, showing no intention of leaving.
Li Ang stopped what he was doing and looked at her with some surprise: "Lottie? Your dormitory is on the second floor downstairs. Aren't you going back to rest? You have an assessment tomorrow."
Lottie's face flushed crimson instantly, her fingers nervously twisting the hem of her clothes, her voice barely audible, tinged with extreme embarrassment: "Um... Mr. Leon... it's... it's too late now..."
She glanced furtively at Li Ang's puzzled expression, then quickly lowered her head and continued explaining, speaking much faster:
"Everyone in the dorm is asleep... If I go back at this time, the sound of opening the door and walking around will definitely wake everyone up... And if I disturb the students who are still meditating... According to the tower rules, I'll be put in solitary confinement..."
Li Ang was taken aback when he heard this. Indeed, he had heard Ellie's attendant explaining the rules that day, but because he lived in a separate dormitory, he had never paid attention to those rules and had forgotten them for a moment.
He looked at Lottie, who was standing with her head down, almost curled up in a ball, and sighed helplessly. He couldn't very well let her stand in the hallway all night.
"Come in." He pushed open the door and stepped aside to let Lottie in.
Lottie stood in the center of the room, looking extremely awkward, unsure of what to do with her hands and feet.
"I...I'll just sit in the chair for a little while. It'll be light soon, really, I won't disturb your rest..."
She spoke softly, not daring to even glance at the bed that looked so soft and comfortable.
Looking at her cautious manner, as if afraid of causing him trouble, Li Ang found it somewhat amusing. Hadn't she been sitting there for half a day? Now that it was time to sleep, she suddenly became embarrassed?
He pointed to the bed, speaking as casually as possible:
"Go to sleep and get some rest for the assessment. I have some things to copy down, and it will take me some time."
"How can that be?" Lottie looked up abruptly as if burned, waving her hands frantically. "That's your bed, how can I... I'll just sit on the floor for a while..."
"Sleep when I tell you to." Li Ang's tone became slightly harsher as he pressed her down onto the edge of the bed without further ado.
"Get some rest so you can be in the best condition to pass the assessment tomorrow. Don't waste your efforts these past few days and my... calming medicine." He deliberately made his words sound more practical.
Upon hearing this, Lottie's eyes reddened again, and she stammered, "Th...thank you, Mr. Leon...you really are..."
"Alright, go to sleep." Li interrupted her, turned around and walked to the desk, picked up the [Inferior Gray Feather Pen Lv2], spread out the parchment, and once again immersed himself in copying the "Level 1 Spellbook".
The soft rustling of writing sounded like the best white noise, and Lottie soon began to breathe evenly and lightly.
Li Ang focused intently on the tip of his pen; with the amplifying effect of the quill pen, his understanding of the spell's structure deepened at an astonishing rate.
The violent energy structure of Fireball, the way Ice Spike condenses its chilling energy, and especially the compression and shaping of Wind Blade... those words seemed to transform into actual magical flow, clearly reconstructed in his spiritual world.
He even had a strong illusion that, with just a thought, that blue-green star could draw enough magic to cast the [Wind Blade] spell.
But reason told him that this was impossible. The spellbook clearly stated that a level 0 spell corresponds to 1 star, while a level 1 spell requires 3 stars to provide sufficient mental support and magical resonance.
He only has 2 stars now, and forcing an attempt would likely result in a spell backlash, mental exhaustion, or spell failure.
He suppressed the urge to try it now and continued to focus on copying, firmly imprinting this insight deep into his consciousness.
After copying another copy, a strong sense of drowsiness finally overwhelmed him. Li Ang yawned, turned off the magic lamp, and lay down on his desk, falling into a deep sleep.
The next morning, Li Ang woke up first, feeling quite refreshed; the [Acceleration Pocket Watch] was indeed remarkably effective.
He looked at the bed, where Lottie was still fast asleep, probably due to the fatigue of the past few days and the difficulty of getting a proper rest in the dormitory.
There were still two days until the deadline for the assessment, so there wasn't much of a rush. Therefore, Li Ang didn't wake the sleeping girl. He quietly left the room, thinking that he should let her get some rest.
After breakfast, Li Ang went straight to his mentor Eve's workshop, intending to take on a few more commissions to replenish his half-empty wallet.
He had barely stepped into the workshop, and before he could even read the contents of the order board, Ginny greeted him as if she had been waiting for him.
"Apprentice Leon, you've arrived. Master Eve instructed that if you come, please go to her living room immediately."
Ginny's tone carried a hint of genuine envy, unlike anything she had ever shown before.
