Chapter 84 A Fish That Escaped the Net

I knew it!

As if another shoe had finally dropped in his heart, Zag breathed a sigh of relief after hearing those words.

Clearly, the reason why this gathering is so lenient towards the entry of "newcomers" is simple: recruiting newcomers is not their only goal!

They can even "sacrifice" the "newlyweds" and perform some kind of weird ritual!

With things having come to this, Zag immediately shielded Liam in front of him, saying, "I risked my life to help you, so I hope you're reliable enough!"

"no problem."

Liam responded with a word, then lightly tapped the ground with his staff. A barely perceptible wave of magic rippled out from Liam's body, and a sudden gust of wind swept through the hall.

The gale overturned the long table in the hall, and "Zag Liam" was caught off guard and swept up by the gale, slamming hard against the wall not far away.

Zag was somewhat surprised—this person really was just an alchemist, not proficient in magic at all!

The others in the hall were no less unruly, all staggering about, and for a moment no one could react.

Everyone had been confident of victory against Zag and Liam, and no one expected this turn of events. It's important to understand that causing such trouble without casting a spell is no easy feat; it requires at least a high-level mage.

Of course, if the caster is not a high-level mage, then that ornate-looking staff truly matches its appearance!

"Zag Liam" finally dropped his fake smile and looked at the two of them with a sinister gaze.

"Although I consider myself cautious enough, I still didn't expect that the two of you are really someone important."

Unfortunately, his words were almost swallowed up by the gale, and Zag didn't have time to pay attention to them. He was busy holding Liam to keep his balance—although the wind wasn't that strong in the center of the gale, where Liam was, Zag still felt like he was about to be blown away at any moment.

The wind grew stronger and stronger, gradually forming a small tornado in the hall, roaring and spinning.

Taking advantage of this moment, Liam began to chant a spell.

Meanwhile, the cultists in the raging wind tried to steady themselves using their own abilities. Several of them, who were clearly mages, even threw several spells that Zag couldn't name in the direction of Liam, but no matter what they threw, it was swept away by the violent wind and could not get close to Liam at all.

Zag thought to himself, no wonder this kid is so confident. He first uses a "control skill" to buy time, and then takes the opportunity to "cast" his "ultimate move". What a genius plan!

Moreover, he guessed that the mages among these cultists were probably only at the level of novice mages at most, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to be tormented for so long by Liam's "control skill" which didn't have much lethality. They might even be apprentice-level mages!

He might not even be able to beat himself!

Zag, who was observing the situation in the hall from behind Liam, was greatly encouraged to realize that no one could handle such a simple situation.

If it were me, I wouldn't care about anything else. I would just shout "Unyielding Power" to interrupt Liam's spellcasting. Even if I was out of commission after shouting, all my allies could still follow up with their "skills," right?

Of course, those mages wouldn't use "Dragon Roar," but they should at least have some other methods... After all, it was a gathering of a cult and its core members, so they couldn't just be a bunch of rabble, could they?

Just as he was thinking of this, Zag noticed that "Zaga Liam," who was being blown so far away that he could only cling to the corner of the wall, was struggling to pull out a parchment scroll, then muttering incantations as he unfolded it and threw it at the tornado that was already in the hall.

Although Zag didn't know what the other party wanted to do, at this moment, whatever they wanted to do, all he had to do was stop them!

So he used the [Fireball] spell and threw it in the direction of the sheepskin scroll.

"Flame, burning, destruction—"

With Zag's shout, a fireball the size of a head flew out.

Unfortunately, just like the spell that the cultists threw at Liam, Zag's fireball was also swept into the tornado as it flew out, and had a long-distance relationship with the parchment scroll that was comparable to the ends of the earth - they never even met!

However, the sheepskin roll didn't seem to have any effect; it was just caught in the gale and flew around in mid-air.

But Zag dared not be careless. The man opposite him, "Zaga Liam," who seemed to be a minor leader of a cult, did not look like someone who would only do useless work.

He kept a close eye on the parchment scroll being tossed around, remaining on high alert.

Sure enough, within seconds the sheepskin roll spontaneously combusted, and the tornado in the hall noticeably subsided.

A few seconds later, the gale completely subsided, leaving only a mess in the room.

"It seems your futile struggle has come to an end."

"Zag Liam" said, tilting his head to instruct the few cultists who had just been prepared beside him: "Kill them. The ritual requires dead people."

Then, fireballs and ice spikes came flying at him. Zag wanted to run, but seeing that Liam was not moving at all, he had no choice but to trust him for the time being and nervously watched as all kinds of spells flew towards Liam.

Should we use [Unyielding Power]?

Or perhaps use Dragon Shout to help Liam?

In an instant, several thoughts swirled in Zag's mind, but he restrained himself under Liam's calm and composed expression.

Then, just as the spells were about to touch Liam, he finally finished chanting the long incantation and uttered a sentence that Zag could finally understand:

"O ice and snow, please bless me—"

As the song ended with a chant-like aria, the air suddenly turned cold—

It wasn't the kind of cold that comes with a howling north wind in winter, but a bone-chilling cold that seemed to freeze even the soul. A layer of pale blue frost spread outwards from Liam's center, freezing everything in its path.

The fireballs and ice spikes that were flying towards them—yes, both the fireballs and the ice spikes themselves—were "frozen" at the very moment they were about to touch Liam, frozen in the air, and then fell down one after another, cracking, shattering, and turning into a pile of powder.

Wherever the frost touched, the ground, walls, overturned tables, and even the hands of the cultists that hadn't had time to retract were all covered with a thin layer of ice.

"Damn it—"

The cultist furthest away had barely uttered two syllables of his curse when his lips were frozen. He could only watch helplessly as "Zag Liam," the only one with the ability and means to escape, unfurled a new parchment scroll and vanished from the spot before the ice and snow could freeze him.

[Snowball's Mini-Showcase of Science]: A parchment scroll is a disposable magical item that carries magical runes and can quickly release magic. It has the advantages of being easy to use and having no requirements on the magical environment or the user's ability to withstand magic. The disadvantages, well...

"Extremely expensive. Just think about it, even a blank parchment scroll is very expensive, not to mention that engraving runes on a parchment scroll is a highly skilled job. Even the simplest destruction spell scroll has a market price of over ten gold pounds!"
