Chapter 112 Entering the Dream
Chapter 112 Entering the Dream
Before long, a light drowsiness swept over me.
Even without looking at the panel prompts, Kane could tell that this was nothing more than a bottle of inferior sleeping potion.
He can wake up from his slumber at any time he wants.
"Never mind, consider it a waste of time."
The moment the thought crossed his mind, darkness completely engulfed his consciousness, and the surrounding environment rapidly distorted.
When Kane opened his eyes again, everything around him had completely changed.
He found himself in the fifth district of the Nord War City, back in that familiar two-story building.
"This dream is quite interesting."
Kane relaxed and was about to take a step when the door was suddenly pushed open, and a familiar figure appeared before him.
It was "Shar".
She was dressed in revealing clothes that accentuated her curvaceous figure, and had a seductive smile on her face, as if she wanted to say something.
Kane looked at her, then suddenly reached out and grabbed her by the neck, lifting her up and slamming her against the wall.
The charming look on "Sha'er's" face instantly turned into pain and terror as she struggled desperately.
Kane's face was icy, a cruel smile appearing on his lips:
"What exactly are you, daring to pry into my memories?"
"I am Shar!"
"Shar" cried out in panic, "It hurts! Let me go! I really am Shar, what are you doing?!"
Kane stared at her flustered expression and said coldly:
"Stop pretending. Being able to read other people's memories and construct such realistic dreams is an ability that ordinary professionals simply don't possess, except for a few special creatures."
Even a spellcaster cannot create such a mirage that replicates memories without extensive and specialized preparation.
His gaze was sharp as he said, enunciating each word clearly, "Show your true colors; you are nothing but a demon."
Under Kane's gaze, the fake Shar's expression suddenly froze, then blood flowed from all seven orifices, and his eyes rolled back.
"Kane, how could you..."
Kane's lips curled into a ruthless smile. He clenched his arms and exerted force, then punched his opponent's head again and again.
A series of dull, heavy blows rang out, and blood splattered everywhere.
To his surprise, the fake Shar in front of him began to twist, its skin melted and dripped, its head tilted, and it eventually turned into a ghoul.
Its ashen skin was like rough leather, its body was as agile as a feline beast, and its face was completely distorted and ferocious.
The next second, a tremendous force erupted, and the ghoul broke free from Kane's grasp.
The ghoul steadied itself, stared at Kane, and said in a sinister tone, "We meet again."
Kane's expression turned serious as he quickly thought things through:
It read my memories, but it was probably only superficial fragments.
It first took the form of Shar, and now it has transformed into a ghoul.
The ghoul suddenly pounced, its huge claws lashing out with a powerful gust of wind.
Kane feigned being unable to dodge, but several deep, bone-revealing wounds were instantly slashed across his body, and the immense force propelled him backward.
His face was grim, and he didn't rashly use his immortality ability. He kept his distance and asked:
"What kind of demon are you? Why can you intrude into my dreams, and why do you need someone else to enter my dream to appear?"
The ghoul revealed a ferocious and triumphant smile, and slammed down again.
Kane was slammed against the window, and the pedestrians outside turned their heads at the same time. Everyone stared at him with a fierce look on their faces, and slowly surrounded him, forming a circle.
Seeing Kane lying on the ground, panting, the ghoul let out a maniacal laugh, but the voice suddenly transformed into an unfamiliar female voice:
"Another reckless fool. Why can't he just stay lost in his dreams?"
"I only intended to extract a part of your soul and limbs to give you a perfect dream, why did you have to shatter it all?"
The ghoul made way for the crowd that had gathered around it.
It extended its sharp claws, grabbed Kane's wounded neck, and lifted him into the air.
Kane's legs were dangling in the air, his hands gripping the other person's arms, appearing powerless to struggle.
The ghoul grinned and said, "Die in your own nightmares, you boring human."
With his throat gripped, Kane spoke slowly and deliberately: "So... you're a demon from the Demon Cult. Who exactly are you?"
The ghoul laughed loudly:
"This body's original name was Theresa. But so what? You, who are about to die in the dream, have no way of sending out any messages."
To its surprise, Kane suddenly smiled.
The next second, the ghoul's pupils shrank sharply.
Kane's wounds were healing at a visible speed, and his flesh was regenerating rapidly.
The injury vanished instantly, as if it had never been sustained.
"Flesh and blood regeneration? You're not human? You're a demon too?"
It instinctively tried to let go, but Kane gripped its arm tightly, grinning as he said:
"Since it's a dream, the things I think about can also be visualized, right?"
A curved blade appeared out of thin air at his command, and he swung it down fiercely.
At the same time, Kane whispered, "Protect from evil spirits!"
Protection against evil spirits is a unique spell in the material plane. Although it is only a low-level spell, it is specifically designed to counter demons.
Because of its singular effect and the fact that it occupies a spell slot, most spellcasters will give up learning this spell.
However, this does not mean it is weak. In actual combat, this spell can deal devastating damage to demons, and can even inflict effective damage on second-tier demons.
As the scimitar slashed through the air, the ghoul let out a piercing scream, and its wound quickly festered.
The ghoul roared in agony, its form constantly shifting, transforming into people from Kane's memories, such as Shar, Sienna, and Reed.
Its expression shifted from terror to malice, and it hissed, "I will kill everyone you care about!"
Then, its body gradually dissipated.
Kane swung his sword, but only shattered a patch of void.
Immediately afterwards, the entire dream began to collapse and shatter, and all the scenes were completely annihilated.
When Kane fully awoke, he was still lying on the wooden bed in the cabin, with the thin half-elf looking at him with a puzzled expression.
Meanwhile, the male elf who had been sleeping nearby had now been awakened, his face filled with extreme fear. He grabbed the thin half-elf by the neck and questioned him sharply.
The other party looked completely bewildered, having no idea what had happened.
Meanwhile, a cacophony of noise, arguments, and even sounds of fighting could be heard outside the cabin.
Suddenly, a terrified scream rang out: "Someone's dead! Someone's dead!"
Kane looked in the direction of the sound and saw two corpses being carried out, one human and one half-elf.
Both died in their sleep, their faces filled with terror and blood flowing from their seven orifices, clearly indicating that they had experienced extreme fear in their dreams.
"I must have killed that demon in my dream. It was driven to the brink and devoured the souls of these people."
Kane thought to himself, but felt no remorse whatsoever.
Even if he didn't intervene, these people who are indulging in false dreams will eventually have many of their souls absorbed by the demon.
The scene was chaotic, with arguments, cries, and fighting all mixed together.
The awakened elf gripped the thin half-elf tightly, demanding an explanation.
Kane stood up expressionlessly, his gaze sweeping around. Suddenly, he noticed a small boat among the many ships start up and head straight away from the floating warehouse, heading into the distance.
A woman's back was visible on the ship's railing.
There's a problem.
Kane was in a hurry and was about to move when a pair of withered hands suddenly grabbed his thigh.
"Guest, please help me clear my name! I really didn't kill anyone!"
The thin, half-elf, tears streaming down his face, clung tightly to Kane, refusing to let go.
Kane frowned, and looked up again. The small boat had already entered the bridge arch and disappeared completely from sight...
"Theresa," Kane murmured the name to himself...
