Chapter 14 It's time to leave work
Chapter 14 It's time to leave work
boom!
A loud bang came from the street corner!
The high wall was shattered, and bricks and stones flew everywhere!
The clanging of weapons against each other rose and fell!
"Protect the princess!!"
The lead guard shouted sternly, gripping the hilt of his sword tightly, cold sweat pouring down his forehead.
The other guards also looked solemn, their bodies tense, their eyes fixed on the street corner.
Fortunately, they both breathed a sigh of relief not long afterward.
Shen Lang is back.
They also mentioned two other people, one in each hand.
"Put the knife away, it's alright now."
Boom!
Shen Lang threw the two men to the ground, bent down and tore a strip of cloth from one of them, slowly wiping the blood off his hands.
The head guard approached and discovered that both men had suffered fatal wounds to their throats; the wounds were extremely deep and were still gushing blood.
With his neck almost broken in half, he was clearly not going to survive.
"Take a few men and take them to the Embroidered Uniform Guard headquarters, and hand them over to Zhou Xiong, the centurion."
"Tell him that these two are assassins, and that he should find out where they came from as soon as possible!"
Shen Lang took off his waist token and tossed it to the guard named Da Hu.
Da Hu glanced back at the carriage and hesitated, then said, "Then, Princess..."
Shen Lang calmly replied, "With me here, nothing will happen."
"Yes, sir!"
He called over a few guards, and they dragged the two corpses away.
"Is the princess alright?"
"I'm fine, thank you, Lord Shen."
The carriage curtain was lifted, and Princess Changning peeked out:
"I just heard you say, sir, that those two were assassins. How did you know that, sir?"
"After I caught them, they realized they couldn't escape, so they immediately committed suicide."
"Extremely decisive, without the slightest hesitation; one would not be able to act this way without special training."
"There aren't many people who dare to keep assassins in the capital. Does the princess have any guesses about the origins of these two?"
Princess Changning frowned and thought for a while, then shook her head: "I'm sorry, Lord Shen, I don't know."
"It's alright, I will find out as soon as possible."
"Thank you for your trouble, Lord Shen."
Princess Changning smiled slightly, nodded politely, lowered the curtain, and returned to the carriage.
Seeing her calm demeanor, a strange light flashed in Shen Lang's eyes.
This princess's personality was quite different from that of Princess Jing'an.
In the morning, when the princess heard that someone had sneaked into the mansion, she was instantly terrified, her face turning pale. She trembled like a frightened rabbit and was surrounded by a group of people to comfort her.
In contrast, Princess Changning remained calm and composed despite being followed and monitored by assassins, her expression unchanged.
This mother and daughter are both extraordinary people; they are truly fascinating.
Shen Lang snapped out of his thoughts and ordered everyone to speed up and head towards the Jing'an Prince's Mansion.
It's almost time for him to leave work.
......
The Jing'an Prince's Mansion.
"What?!"
"Another thief?!"
Princess Jing'an was so shocked that her face turned pale, and even the hairpin in her hair trembled.
"Mother, I'm alright. Lord Shen captured those two on the spot," Princess Changning comforted her softly.
"What are we going to do? Why are there thieves everywhere all of a sudden...?"
Princess Changning smiled faintly and said, "Perhaps it was there before, but we only found out today."
"Don't leave the manor anymore. Stay hidden until the case is solved!"
"No, I need to bring in more guards; there are still too few in the manor..."
"By the way, what about those two thieves? Did you find out who they were, who sent them?"
Princess Jing'an paced back and forth in the room, her chest heaving violently, her face still showing signs of shock.
"They committed suicide. Lord Shen said they were suicide soldiers. The bodies have been sent to the Embroidered Uniform Guard headquarters for inspection by Commander Zhou."
"An assassin?!"
Princess Jing'an's almond-shaped eyes widened, and she stumbled, nearly falling to the ground.
The maids rushed over to support him and gently comforted him.
After a while, Princess Jing'an calmed down a bit, looked around, and said in surprise:
"Where is Shen Lang? Where is he?"
The guards, dressed in replicas of the Jinyiwei (Imperial Guard) uniforms, looked at each other, hesitant to speak.
Princess Changning put down the book in her hand and said, "Lord Shen has finished his duties and gone home."
"What?"
Princess Jing'an was stunned, not immediately understanding what those words meant.
The guard lowered his head and explained in a low voice, "Lord Shen escorted the princess to the door, said that it was time to go home and he was about to finish his duty, and then rode away on his horse."
"They're gone..."
"They're gone?!"
Princess Jing'an was anxious: "The thieves have almost surrounded us! How can he leave? If he leaves, how will we protect the palace?"
"No, we have to call him back. What will we do without him?"
Princess Changning said softly, "Mother, there's no need to worry. There are three thousand guards in the manor, so nothing will happen."
Mentioning the guards only made her angrier; her chest heaved as she spoke.
"Three thousand guards, all of them are useless gluttons!"
"What use are they if they don't know when thieves come or when they're being followed?"
"I have never heard of the Embroidered Uniform Guard having their duties ended at dusk!"
"Send someone to find Shen Lang and tell him to come to the Prince's residence immediately!"
The guard scratched his head: "Your Highness, I don't know where Lord Shen lives either."
Princess Jing'an said angrily, "Li Zhong, go and investigate!"
"I need to see him within fifteen minutes!"
Princess Changning walked over slowly, gently patted her back, and softly comforted her:
"Lord Shen must be tired after a long day."
"Mother, don't disturb him, let him rest well."
Seeing her nonchalant demeanor, Princess Jing'an's temper flared up again, and she slapped her hand away.
"You were almost kidnapped in the street, and you acted like nothing happened. What on earth was going on in your head?"
"Lord Shen said they were just tracking and observing, and had no intention of taking action."
"Those are assassins! How can we judge them by common sense!"
Princess Changning didn't want to talk about it anymore, and wrinkled her delicate nose: "I'm going to feed the cat."
"What time is it? Still thinking about those stray cats? You're not allowed to leave the manor!"
"They're not stray cats, they're free-roaming cats!"
"I think you're stupid. No cats are allowed to go anywhere. Stay here and behave yourself!"
Princess Changning was a little angry, turned her back, and lowered her head to read.
Princess Jing'an unleashed her anger, and the atmosphere in the palace immediately became tense.
The servants didn't dare to breathe loudly, and they walked with their backs bent.
The princess's personal maidservant approached the head steward, Li Zhong, and whispered:
"Steward Li, it's time for dinner. Would you like to proceed with the banquet as usual?"
Li Zhong smiled bitterly: "Lord Shen has already left, what's the point of having a banquet?"
"The princess will definitely be angry when she sees this. Just change them all and prepare a few of the princess's favorite side dishes and send them over."
"Then I'll go tell the kitchen right away." The maid hurried off.
Just as the kitchen was reopened to prepare dinner for the princess.
Da Hu, the guard sent by Shen Lang to the Jinyiwei headquarters, has returned.
"Your Highness, the person has been handed over to Commander Zhou!"
Princess Jing'an hurriedly asked, "What did Zhou Xiong say? Has he found out the origins of the thieves?"
Da Hu scratched his head: "Commander Zhou said it won't be that quick, we'll have to wait a few days."
"He also said that Lord Shen's judgment was correct; those two were indeed assassins!"
"And they weren't just any ordinary assassins!"
